PENISTONE
HEALTHY LIVING AND ACTIVE LIFESTYLES PROJECT Penistone East & West
ABOUT
THE PROJECT
The project aims to promote health and well-being by increasing
the physical activity levels amongst people living within the Penistone area.
The project is open to anyone wishing to participate in a range of activities
but focusing on sedentary people and those most at risk from health related illness.
The project is funded through the Leader + and Big Lottery Fund programme and
is directly linked to Healthy Living Barnsley. Contribution
to the local and national Public Health Agenda Choosing
Health and the Fit for the Future Strategy highlights the fact that the lack of
physical activity contributes significantly to deaths from coronary hear disease
and cancer. The prevalence of childhood obesity across Barnsley suggests that
innovative approaches are needed to increase the number of people who are participating
in some moderate form of physical activity for an average 30 minutes a day 5 days
a week. The
project will provide the necessary information, support and advice to enable local
people to choose and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The types of activities which
