ABOUT
THE PROJECT The Young Peoples Health Project is an innovative health
and lifestyle peer education project that aims to equip young people with the
knowledge, skills and awareness required to take positive steps to maintain their
health and that of their peers. The
project provides training and support to young people who will be recruited as
peer educators (known as Community Health Ambassadors). Ambassadors will provide
health and lifestyle advice and education to young people who live in Athersley,
New Lodge and Smithies areas of Barnsley.
The
project will cover a wide range of health-related issues that affect young people
including: Y
Substance
misuse Y
Sexual
health Y
Stopping
smoking Y
Diet
and nutrition Y
Physical
activity Y
Stress,
anger and conflict management The
intended project outcomes include: Y
Recruitment
of Health ambassadors Y
Increased
awareness knowledge and Support around health issues Y
Increased
participation in physical activity Y
Increased
confidence and self-esteem Y
Reduction
in the number of young people smoking Y
Access
to sexual health information advice and support We

The Young People's Health
Drop in is at 32 Derwent Road, Athersley South. Open to ages 13-25
years. Opening Times: Wednesday
